About this programme

The program Business Administration with Management develops leadership skills related to decision-making, problem solving, teamwork, negotiation and the management of employees` performance. It forms graduates who can join top management positions in a range of organizations, including public, private and nonprofit organizations. It also provides an understanding of the connection between strategic management, human resource management and management operations.

Course Outline & Programme Structure

Year I

Core unit, Mandatory

The aim of this unit is to provide students with the wider business environments in which organisations operate.

Students will examine

  • the different types of organisations
  • how the wider external environments influence business decision-making.

Core unit, Mandatory

This unit is designed to:

  • develop a basic marketing plan
  • employ elements of the marketing mix to achieve results.

Organisations such as Apple, Google, Zara, Nestle,Coca-Cola, and small local businesses use marketing to influence us to engage with their products and/or services.

People are the lifeblood of any organization. Being able to attract, recruit and retain talented staff is at the core of all HRM activity.

Students will explore the importance of training and development in building and extending the skills base of the organisation. They will:

  • become familiar with techniques of job design and reward systems
  • investigate the importance of good employee relations;  the ways in which employers engage with their staff.

Core unit, Mandatory

This unit will introduce the concept of operations as both a function and a process.

The aim of this unit is:

  • help students understand the difference between the function of a manager and the role of a leader
  • students will consider the characteristics, behaviors and traits which support effective management and leadership

Students will explore how management accounting uses financial data to aid planning decisions, and the monitoring and control of finance within organisations.

The project brief will be set by the centre, based on a theme provided by Pearson.

Students will undertake independent research and investigation for carrying out and executing a business project which meets appropriate business aims and objectives.

This unit provides students an understanding of the enablers and barriers to business start-up.
Students will learn:

  • about the influence of national culture, personal characteristics of entrepreneurs and the education and background upon entrepreneurship
  • role and importance of small firms to the economy
  • balance of risk and reward in starting a new venture.

Year II

Core unit, Mandatory

Students will choose their own project based on a theme provided by Pearson

• The project must be related to their specialist pathway
• The unit enables students to demonstrate the capacity and ability to identify a research theme, to develop research aims, objectives and outcomes, and to present the outcomes of such research in both written and verbal formats.

Core unit, Mandatory

The aim of this unit is to develop a student’s understanding of the influence culture, politics and power have on the behavior of others in an organisational context.

Students will have an understanding of key influences which affect the behavior of individuals, teams and organisations as a whole.

Specialist unit, Mandatory

The content for this unit will be the consideration of the strategic role of operations management and planning and control of resources, and project management theories and the project life cycle.

Students will be in a strong position to contribute to, as well as lead, small-scale projects.

Specialist unit, Mandatory

The aim of this unit is to prepare students to anticipate, plan and deliver organisational change.

In addition students will be able to maximise the benefits and minimise the risk of organisational change.

Students will also be in a strong position to contribute to change initiatives as well as to consider the strategies required to change resistors.

Specialist unit, Mandatory

The aim of this unit is to explore the wider position some organisations have in the global environment. Students will appreciate the complexities of operating in a global environment, and this will enable them to offer greater breadth and depth to an organisation’s current or aspirational global presence.

Optional unit

Changing dynamics between buyers and sellers, driven by the evolution of e-commerce and globalisation, has led organisations to review and adapt their sales management to a customer driven culture.

Optional Unit

This unit gives students a comprehensive overview of brand management

• starting with why brands are so important and how they are formed,
• through to measuring brand value and managing a portfolio of brands over time.

The unit explores a range of tools and techniques that can be employed to maximize brand value, while looking at a number of case studies.

Minimum entry requirements for admissions to BRISB: High school diploma; also, learners to have an appropriate level of English (certified B2 level).

Prospective students are selected not only by their formal qualifications, but also their experience, motivation and interest in the course. This is normally established by an interview for the programme.
